Scarce collected poems of early Hollywood screenwriter Samuel Hoffenstein with 1910  bookplate designed by artist Raymond Nott during his tenure as Roycroft art director.

Hoffenstein, a Russia-born screenwriter and composer, died at the height of his fame in 1947 shortly before the publication of his third poetry collection. That as well as his second work in 1928, like this apparent first collection, anthologize poems Hoffenstein had previously submitted to various newspapers, in this case, the New York Sun.

Raymond Nott, a Roycroft artist starting around 1904, served as acting art director for the design studio from 1908 to sometime before 1916 creating book covers, stationary and bookplates (including the personal plate of philosopher and Roycroft founder Elbert Hubbard).

 

8vo, 104pp, maroon gilt cloth boards. Some spotting and fading to boards, spine faded, ends bumped, 1910 Raymond Nott designed Roycroft bookplate of Peter Felix front pastedown, another contemporary ownership signature dated 1920 first free endpaper. Small tear margin pg. 103. Good condition.
