Early Amateur Fanzine Sooner Comics With Plastic Man Parody and Wally Wood Letter Announcing Witzend

Curtis, Matt and Shults, Bruce. Sooner Comics No. 3. W&S Publishing. Altus, Oklahoma. Fall 1966.

Early issue of the 1960s fanzine Sooner Comics featuring original amateur comics from Matt Curtis, Earl Blair Jr., Mike Flesher, Rick Seward, including characters The Mask, Horseshoe, Captain Sonar, and Synthetic Man, a parody of Plastic Man. This issue also includes a brief history of Plastic Man and a biography of his ill-fated creator, Jack Cole, also noted for his work in early Playboy, who committed suicide in 1958. Notably, there is also a letter from legendary comic artist Wally Wood announcing the creation of his early underground comics anthology, Witzend, which began publication in 1966. Also includes a small, separate ditto note from the editor that the issue is one of 200 that have been delivered free of charge.

This copy formerly belonged to late Marvel Comics colorist Andy Yanchus, noted for his work on Alpha Flight.

No copies listed in OCLC as of April 2023.
