Brackett, W.W. Billy Brackett ‘s Frenzied Filosophy. A Zellerbach and Sons : San Francisco . 1905.

Scarce first and only edition of this illustrated collection of humorous maxims and folk wisdom from popular San Francisco character William ” Billy ” Brackett during his tenure as manager of the wrapping paper department of the A Zellerbach and Sons department store.

Described as a “philosopher, song writer, poet, minstrel, monologist, and all around good fellow” by the Napa Journal in 1908, the same article notes Billy Brackett as the coach of the minor league baseball teams the San Francisco Seals and Billy’s Imperials. Brackett was also an early West Coast automobile salesman and enthusiast, custodian of the Oakland Auditorium, as well as the manager and namesake for the early California baseball team “The Billy Bracketts”.

As noted on the introductory page, this book began life as a series of cards created by Brackett for his customers which grew to sufficient popularity to necessitate this bound collection.

No copies found in OCLC as of August 2021.
