Catalogue Of The Relics And Curiosities In Ye Olde Gaol. Bronson Batchelor Inc. : New York. [1890?]

Rare history and guidebook for “Ye Olde Gaol” or the Old York Gaol, the King’s Jail and prison of colonial Maine and one of the oldest prison buildings in the United States believed to date in part from 1719. In addition to offering a history of the building and a guide to various period ware on display the text also includes anecdotes from the Gaol’s long history, including the escape of five prisoners one night in 1791.

Two slightly different versions of the same text are known, both held in Harvard’s Widener Library, with this undated example includes a Bequest form on its final page dated 1890.

One copy of each version found in OCLC as of January 2022.
