Description
First Edition of The Groundbreaking Surreal Scifi Novel Ice by Anna Kavan
Kavan, Anna. Ice. Peter Owen. London. 1967. First Edition.
First edition of the groundbreaking proto-slipstream apocalyptic science fiction novel Ice by Helen Emily Woods who published under the name Anna Kavan, taken from a character in one of her early short stories.
The most successful of Kavan’s novels and published a year before her early death, Ice focuses on a future climate change scenario where spreading extreme arctic weather pushes humanity to extinction amidst the backdrop of nebulous geopolitical machinations. Written in a surreal, dream-like style that jumps back and forth between time and location, the novel tracks an unnamed narrator working for a surviving government as he tracks a mysterious woman and her captor(?) across a frozen, dying world.
[158]pp. Black cloth boards. Gilt lettering to spine. Minor wear to boards and top spine. Small spot to textblock fore edge. Minor foxing to endpapers. Pages clean. Lacks dustjacket. Very good.
