Warne, George. A Lecture On Spiritualism Delivered At Oklahoma City, OK September 9, 1920. Oklahoma City: Oklahoma State Spiritualist Association.

“A Lecture on Spiritualism” by Dr. George B. Warne, President of the National Spiritualists Association and President of the Lily Dale Assembly, is a thought-provoking and enlightening exploration of the nature of spiritualism and its relationship with Christianity. Published in 1920 by the Oklahoma State Spiritualists Association, this lecture was delivered as part of a nationwide speaking tour during the early 20th century spiritualist revival.

In this lecture, President Warne frames spiritualism in largely Christian terms, utilizing a great number of biblical quotes to make his points. However, he also uses a kind of casual irony that reflects the ongoing conflicts between the two related religions. In addition to revisiting passages from scripture to provide spiritualist interpretations, Warne posits and answers the question “Did God make man or did man make God?” suggesting that they made each other.
