Description

Scarce First Issue of En Garde, Early Fan Zine For The Avengers and Diana Rigg , With Original Title ” Rigger Digger ”

Schultz, Richard. The Rigger Digger No One. Detroit, Michigan. October 1967.

First issue of the noted early fan zine En Garde prior to its name change and broadening of focus beyond British television series, The Avengers (1961 – 1969), remembered for blending espionage, science fiction, and humor. Amusingly and cuttingly written, The Rigger Digger is noted as arguably the first television fan zine as well as for its devotion to actress Diana Rigg who rose to fame as a sex symbol playing female co-lead Emma Peel in the spy adventure program after joining its cast in 1965. (The zine would later expand to topics like Star Trek in later issues). Rigg, who died in 2020, is perhaps best remembered today for playing the wife of James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969) and Olena Tyrell in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
