Early Government Manual To The Detection of Syphilis By Serologic Tests Published In The Immediate Aftermath of World War II

Bauer, Theodore, ed. Manual of Serologic Tests for Syphilis. United States Government Printing Office. Washington, D.C. 1949.

Original copy of an early manual of serologic tests of syphilis printed on behalf of the Federal Security Agency’s Public Health Service Division of Venereal Disease in 1949, predating both the US Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control. Assembled at the Venereal Disease Research Laboratory at the US Marine Hospital on Staten Island, the text was compiled with the assistance of the individual developers of the various tests utilizing blood samples to detect syphilis infection, each of which receives its own dedicated section. Interestingly, the manual dates from just 6 years after the successful treatment of syphilis with penicillin.

30 copies found in OCLC as of November 2023.
